About Anthonette “Ella Loca”

Anthonette Padilla is a contemporary artist and fashion designer from Albuquerque, New Mexico based out of Los Angeles, California. In 2016 she earned a BA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.

During her time at FIDM, Anthonette noticed the need for more diversity in the fashion industry. Mostly all of her peers at FIDM were thin white women, Anthonette wanted to be surrounded and supported by women that resembled the women she had been raised by. Around the same time Anthonette was seeing stores like Urban Outfitters carrying clothing with Latinx iconography such as the Virgin Mary. Anthonette believed this type of iconography should only come from artists who had a deep seeded connection with them.

In 2016 Anthonette started her clothing brand Ella Loca via Instagram and has seen much success over the past 9 years. Ella Loca has been featured in publications such as Teen Vogue, LA Times Image, The Thing Magazine and The Sanxtuary Mag. Ella Loca has also been worn by many influencers, musicians and celebrities such as Miss Bashful, Bay Davis, Tia Corine and Becky G.

The past four years of Anthonette’s life have largely influenced her work. In 2020 Anthonette learned about her father's infidelity and helped her mother through many suicidal ideation episodes, Anthonette's mother would succumb to her ideation in 2022. Two and a half years later, Anthonette's father also succumbed to his own depression. This tragic love story has led Anthonette to create works influenced by death, healing the relationship with the collective masculines and feminines, life’s biggest celebrations such as marriage, and finding strength through God.
